Budget Truck Rentals Puts You In Charge
When you rent a truck from Budget Truck Rental , you have control of your goods and belongings. With a traditional van line or portable storage unit, all of your belongings are under someone else's control. They may not treat your belongings with the same care and consideration you would.
Budget Truck Rentals Let You Plan Your Move
Weekend or weekday? Pick up your truck and moving accessories from a Budget Truck Rental location on the day you want, based upon availability at the time of your rental. You are not limited to a van lines schedule, which may only include weekday pickups and drop-offs.
Budget Truck Rental understands that weekends are when you have the most availability and free-time to move, so Budget Truck Rental works to ensure that is when we have as many of our trucks as possible available on the weekends.
Budget Truck Rental Saves you Money
Moving estimates can be tricky and hard to understand. You could be paying much more than you expect, and not even know it! Budget Truck Rental offers easy to understand rates based on truck size. Its that easy!
These Packing Tips used when you move homes will also come in handy when storing your items at AAA Storage facility.
- Do your own packing: you can save a lot of money if you do the majority of the packing on your own. Limit yourself to non-fragile items such as books, bedclothes, garments and shoes; and replaceable items such as plates, dishes (not fine china or expensive silverware), and small kitchen appliances. These items will be less expensive to replace in case of damage. Leave the furnishings, mattresses, and heavy appliances to be packed by the mover. Order boxes online!
- Watch the weight: the heavier the item, the smaller the box it should occupy. Don't toss everything into one large box. It will make the lifting and carrying much more strenuous. A good rule of thumb is if you can't lift the box easily, it's too heavy! Keep the weight of the box under 50lbs and remember to always lift with your knees, not your back.
- Never let the movers pack your jewelry, family heirlooms, or other priceless items. Should they be lost or damaged, the insurable value will not nearly cover value you would place on them. Such items include jewelry, sports memorabilia, photo albums, and various hobby collections. Pack these items yourself and take them with you, either in the car or as carry-on baggage if size allows.
- Get the right boxes for your items - the right sizes and strengths. Have sufficient wardrobe boxes, as they'll save you ironing time later. You can pack t-shirts and jeans in suitcases and regular boxes but you don't want to pack your fine clothing such as suits or dresses in the same place. Save space by tossing in shoes at the bottom of the wardrobe box, but be reasonable. Don't let the box become too heavy or susceptible to fallout from the bottom. Buy the padded dish boxes with dividers to protect your fine china. For your replaceable and non-fragile items, save money by using sturdy boxes with unprinted newsprint paper for wrapping. Order boxes online!
- Take the time to pack everything carefully. It is important for you to buffer and separate the fragile items that you pack with newsprint, bubble wrap, sheets, blankets, pillows and towels. Wrap each fragile item separately. Fill in empty spaces to minimize movement during the move. Pack plates and glass objects vertically, rather than flat and stacked. Purchase strong tape (not masking tape) but either duct tape or the plastic and strapping tape that movers use.
- Let movers know which boxes you packed. For the safety of your items, movers are required to inspect each box tendered for shipment. Immediately point out to your mover each and every box that you packed yourself, especially if they're fragile or valuable. The mover will advise you on whether the boxes need to be repacked in sturdier, more appropriate boxes. They have the right to refuse to load any box they deem improperly packed. Any improperly packed boxes must be repacked either by you or the mover. All repacking services are additional costs. However, if you agree to use used boxes, they may give them to you for free. Professional moving companies use only sturdy and reinforced cartons. Although the boxes you can obtain from your neighborhood supermarket may be free, they are not nearly as strong or padded. They are more susceptible to causing damage to your valuables in transit. Keep in mind that movers are not liable for items they didn't pack.
- To protect themselves, movers will not disconnect your major appliances. Before the movers arrive to pack and load, unplug and prepare your refrigerator, dishwasher, stove, washer and dryer. Also prepare your computer and back-up your important electronic files.
- Movers will not transport living things such as your plants or pets. If you do not wish to give them away, don't forget to prepare them for the move. They will need a "plant/pet suitcase" of their own.
- Movers will not transport or allow you pack hazardous materials. These items include: paint, thinners, solvents, oils, varnishes, firearms and ammunition, bottled gas, propane, lamp oil, anything flammable, explosive or corrosive, motor fuels and oils, nail polish remover, bleach and aerosol cans. Also note that spilled sesame oil leaves a terrible stench on nearby items.
- Make the loading process easier and more organized by designating a room in your home/apartment, preferably the one closest to the door, in which to place all of your boxes. Keep related boxes together since they'll end up in the same room. This will help cut on the carrying time and make the move much more efficient.
Self-storage companies are usually quite flexible about what you can and cannot store in your rented unit. While there are usually few restrictions, there are some items that are simply forbidden. If in doubt about storing certain items, contact the site managers and inquire.
The most common restrictions include:
Flammable or Combustible Materials
For obvious reasons, these types of materials will cause very real danger to the facility, its personnel, and your own possessions. The list of restricted items includes (but is not limited to) gasoline, fuel, fireworks etc. Therefore, you will usually be required to empty all fuel tanks (including your lawn mower) before storing these items in self-storage.Animals or Animal Products
Strange as it may seem, people have actually attempted to 'store' their pets in self-storage, as they believe they can access them for feeding and care as necessary. This is quite obviously cruel and could result in prosecution. Animal products are also not allowed in self-storage, as they will attract rodents.
Perishable Foodstuffs
If you're looking to store the contents of your house in self-storage, it might make sense simply box up the contents of your kitchen cupboards and stick them in the storage unit. While this would be fine for canned goods, there are restrictions on perishable foods and even dry goods as they will attract rodents.
Stolen or Illegal Items
Without question, stolen or illegal items may not be stored under any circumstances in a self storage unit.
Firearms
Some self-storage providers will allow you to store firearms (unloaded of course since ammunition is combustible) and some will refuse. If you are allowed, you will need to follow the facility restrictions about securing the item(s).
Jewelry and Other Valuables
Not all self-storage providers will allow you to store items such as valuable jewelry, coins, antiques and precious metals etc. Some facilities will allow it, but you will be required to show adequate insurance coving the items.
Odors
Some self-storage providers will restrict the storage of fragrant items or anything that will cause a significant odor on site.
Aerosols
Many facilities will not allow the storage of aerosols or pressurized materials, as there is the possibility that they could burst and cause accidents.
Hazardous Materials
Self-storage facilities will not allow the storage of hazardous, toxic or chemical materials on site as they can cause very real damage if they spill or if there is a fire.
Being in the Self Storage business for over twelve years, AAA Storage has accumulated many ideas from managers and customers. This list will grow as new ideas filter in.
Storing Washing Machines
When a washing machine is unhooked and moved, it still contains a lot of water. The machine should be fully drained before storing it or it will create moisture in the storage unit which could lead to mold and mildew.
Storing Refrigerators
Invest in some wooden wedges (available at any hardware store for around $1.00) and insert these in the door between the rubber seals before tapping the door shut so that air can get into the refrigerator. This will keep mold out and prevent that horrible stagnant smell from forming.
Covering Belongings
If you want to cover your belongings for extra protection, we suggest using old cotton sheets. Plastic is a poor selection as it will hold in moisture and cause mold and mildew to form. Cotton Sheets can also be placed on the floor to protect mattresses from dust.
Preventing Odors
Put a couple of scoops of coffee grounds into old panty hose and put in the refrigerator, freezer and washing machine to prevent odors.
Do not store food items or combustible materials i.e. solvents, paints, etc.- Plan your storage space carefully. Place items that you may need to access often in the front. Allow for walkways.
- Make up an inventory of your stored items and keep it in a safe place at home or in a safe deposit box. Order our Online Coupons and we will include a FREE BONUS: An Inventory Checklist and Storage Box Label Kit. Order it NOW! Its FREE!
- Place your furniture on 2 x 4 boards or on pallets to protect against the changing temperature of the concrete floors.
- Use uniform size boxes for easy stacking. Be sure your boxes are strong enough to hold 25 to 30 lbs. (It is best not to put too much in each box.)
- List contents of boxes on the Inventory Checklist (see item #3 above) instead of printed on each box. Use the FREE Storage Box Label Kit that comes with the Free Online Coupons to number the boxes so they match the inventory Checklist. Keep these Inventory Checklists in a safe convenient place for use when unpacking.
- Stack lighter boxes on top of heavier boxes.
- Dishes and glasses should be wrapped in paper and packed in sturdy boxes. Stack them on top.
- Pictures and mirrors should be wrapped in cardboard, marked "Fragile" and stacked on end.
- Furniture with drawers can be utilized as storage places for pictures, knick-knacks, china, silverware, small items, etc. Wrap them in tablecloths, towels, or blankets to prevent breakage.
- Larger appliances make great "packing cases" for blankets, towels, table clothes, and clothes.
- Shovels, hoes, rakes, and hoses can be stored together in empty trash cans. Stack extra cans inside one another.
- Tables with removable legs should be disassembled to save space.
- Sofas and loveseats can be stored on end to save floor space. Always place a protective layer under the item on the concrete. Cushions should be wrapped in plastic and placed on top.
- Cover stuffed furniture with plastic to protect against dust.
- It is best to store mattresses flat on top of a level stack of boxes or furniture. If you stand mattresses on their side, prop them up so they stand straight. (They may tend to bend out of shape and become lumpy).
- Wrap stringed instruments in one or two blankets loosen the strings.
- Do not place heavy or sharp objects on top of upholstered furniture.
- Always use a good quality lock on your door. At AAA Storage, you will receive a FREE LOCK as a move in gift to you. These are the very best disc locks, made by Chateau, the best lock-maker in the industry.
- Make sure surfaces of antiques and other wood furniture are treated before storing.
