Being in the Self Storage business for over twelve years, AAA Storage has accumulated many ideas from managers and customers. This list will grow as new ideas filter in.
Storing Washing Machines When a washing machine is unhooked and moved, it still contains a lot of water. The machine should be fully drained before storing it or it will create moisture in the storage unit which could lead to mold and mildew.
Storing Refrigerators Invest in some wooden wedges (available at any hardware store for around $1.00) and insert these in the door between the rubber seals before tapping the door shut so that air can get into the refrigerator. This will keep mold out and prevent that horrible stagnant smell from forming.
Covering Belongings If you want to cover your belongings for extra protection, we suggest using old sheets. Plastic will hold moisture and cause mold and mildew. Sheets can also be placed on the floor to protect mattresses from dust.
Preventing Odors Put a couple of scoops of coffee grounds into old panty hose and put in the refrigerator, freezer and washing machine to prevent odors.
